Basic River Safety and Rescue Class 6/24/2018

Learn and practice the skills you need to be safer on the river including self-rescue and assisting others. We will be teaching the most commonly used skills that have helped us many times on the river such as swimming self-rescue, boat towing, basic use of ropes, hand-of-god rescue, safe river wading and swimming and many general river safety tips.

The course will be taught on the Lehigh river at Glen Onoko in Jim Thorpe PA on Sunday, June 24th.

The course is suitable for new boaters as well as experienced boaters who have never taken this class or who want a refresher in these skills. You will need to bring your own whitewater boat, PFD, helmet etc. If you have a throw-rope bring it along.

The course is free to KCCNY members and $25 for non-members. Pre-Registration is required and class is limited to 12 students so sign up early to save a space.

ACA membership required (for insurance; $5/day for non-ACA members).
KCCNY does have loaner boats/ equipment available. Arrangements must be made ahead of time and you are responsible for arranging transport for your boat and equipment.

If you want to make a weekend of it:
Tom Hart will be coordinating a trip Saturday, 6/23 on the Lehigh (class 2, ‘normal’ release scheduled). Also Saturday is a 2 barrel Mongaup release. A KCCNY group will be camping in the area Saturday night. Contact Tom if you are interested on camping Tom Hart ( .
